Artists Profiles :
::Sattyananda (Audioashram)::
Nikhel is a qualified sound engineer with over 14 years of experience. He has diverse work experience in the entertainment industry including being creative producer for Red FM and making ad films and short documentaries.
Nikhel was the first Indian musician to play live at various festivals in Europe including the Freedom Festival (Greece), Glade (U.K) and Sonica (Italy ) and at festivals in France Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, as Sattyananda and Kalyug. In addition to performances at India gate, Purana Quilla, Central Park (CP), he has also played at charity events.
Under his three avatars, Sattyananda, Kalyug and Shiva Central, he has released many critically acclaimed albums. In 2005, Nikhel conceptualized a compilation “Vande Mataram” that showcased Indian Electronica and was released on ‘Music Today’. He composed, produced and arranged his debut album, “Internal Activities” that was released by ‘India Today Group’. In 2008, he, along with Hari Singh, produced “Saatvik Sequencers” an electro-classical music project that combines traditional Indian ragas with electronic music textures. As Kalyug, Nikhel has released his full length debut, 'Digital Chamatkar'. He currently has two dance albums, 'Progressive Sets' & 'Nacho Sare (Punjabi Dance Album)', in the pipeline.
Nikhel has been dabbling in electronic music since the age of 16. In 1996, he was introduced to the true GOA sound that illustrated the vast and endless possibilities available in the Digital era. He channeled his ideas and energies in the creation of India’s first Electronic Label, Dada Music in 2006.
Nikhel started Audioaashram early 2008 with the goal of promoting alternative music and developing a brand that defines alternative music, lifestyle and culture in India and across the globe. With Audioaashram already underway and two more albums set for release, Nikhel’s mission for the rest of 2009 is to promote his newest venture, Radio 79, an online radio station that features some of the best record labels, artists, D.J’s and producers from across the globe.
:: BlueOrb (Audioashram)::
Conceptualized in 2004, Praketh a.k.a BlueOrb, is an audio powerhouse from Bombay. Currently anchored in New Delhi, he is label manger and resident DJ at Audioaashram and one of the founding spearheads of Radio 79, India’s first online radio station, dedicated to electronic music. Since 2004, he has been promoting and spinning some seriously plush, downtempo sounds, covering genres like psy-chillout, glitch and alternate breaks, all across India. Extending his musical expertise to the dance floor in 2006, BlueOrb started a new project under the name BUFFA PIRATE, belting out some fidgety and cut-up techno, electro, dubstep and Nu breaks. Having plundered dance floors in Delhi, Bombay, Goa and Bangalore, BluOrb has headlined with some industry bigwigs like psykovsky, kindzadza, zik, zmachine, Atmos, Dede, Exaile, Sattyananda, Order of the Essence, Olive Tree Dance, Asad, Kerosene Club/Bioriod Bee and the MIDIval PunditZ.
BlueOrb is also a part of the Bombay artist and promoter collective “Nocturnal Wizardz” and runs a website for the promotion of underground electronic music called the 'Decompression Chamber' which features CD reviews, interviews and mixes from top-notch labels and Artists from around the globe. BlueOrb has also compiled a disc called ‘VA – Shanti Broadcast’, scheduled to be released in 2010, featuring artists like Asura, Bob Tracker, Nalepa, Bluetech, Open System (Ishq+Indidginus), Sattyanada and more. With a dynamic sound ranging from ambient chill to some heavy duty bassline drills to dirty beats, the BlueOrb and BUFFA PIRATE experience is full of surprises and pumping enough to ambush your senses, leaving you nailed to the dancefloor.
:: S.O.N.R (Audioashram)::
Rishi’s electronic journey began while he was living in Honolulu, Hawaii. After listening to a variety of dance music through the 90’s, a new wave of sounds redefined his perception of electronica. In 2001 S.O.N.R. aka Rishi Handa, bought his first mixer and CD players and began playing for his friends. By 2002 he was playing at underground parties on the island of Oahu (Hawaii) and has been progressing since.
S.O.N.R’s DJ sets are a rich in atmospheres, thumping bass lines, transcending leads and are very dance floor oriented. Each track represents a chapter in a story culminating into a high energy, elated flight through sound. S.O.N.R. strings together a number of diverse styles of Electronica with a signature mixing technique. S.O.N.R. is versatile enough to tailor a set around an event, a theme and even around a venue. A typical S.O.N.R. set begins at a slow pace from relaxing ambient sound-scapes, moves through bouncy Progressive rhythms to heavy bass-line driven Trance and finally progresses into a finger licking series of dance-floor bombs packed with energy.
::B.L.O.T aka Basic Love Of Things::
Anyone who has ever been to a B.L.O.T mash-up will realize one of three things, if not all together in one big dance floor epiphany. B.L.O.T commandment one is - if you're not enjoying what you do, then put it away for someone else's day.
The second commandment sums-up the basic aim of B.L.O.T, which is to create atmosphere and not just sounds. Avinash conjures up imagery and sources, often obscure, visuals - including short stop-motion films of his own - to combine them into narrative montages. Gaurav and Akshar provide a diverse
musical palate to complement the story. The former slices minimal and techno tracks (including their own productions) together into cohesive aural sets. He also provides live percussion to the experience. Akshar plays progressive, electro and tech-house while dabbling into visual schemes occasionally.
The third element is, quite literally, the basic love of things. All three have varied creative interests that manifest themselves into the base vibe. Whether it's their intense love for all things technological, or a
particular affinity with the construction and conception of toys, and everything inventive that lies in between.
